Originally from the naturally beautiful island known as the "Pearl of the Indian Ocean"— Sri Lanka, both Wann Fernando and Kay Fernando come from a family deeply rooted in mass garment manufacturing. In 2017 moved to Los Angeles.
Wann Fernando has been a prominent figure in the apparel industry since 1998, owning mass garment manufacturing factories in Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. He launched his first clothing business in New York in 2006, later relocating to Los Angeles in 2015.After moving to the U.S.A. permanently in 2017, Wann continued to grow his clothing ventures while nurturing a long-held dream—to create a premium brand proudly made in the USA. Inspired by this vision, he purchased and took ownership of the iconic American Jeans brand, originally founded in the 1970s and once recognized for its quality and craftsmanship, all made in the USA.Together with his wife Kay Fernando, they founded American Jeans Inc., with the mission of reviving American denim heritage through high-quality, locally made garments. Based in Los Angeles, the brand stands as a symbol of authenticity, sustainability, and timeless vintage American style, honoring its legacy while pushing forward with fresh, modern design under Kay’s creative leadership.
Kay had a strong foundation in mathematics & law, and her journey in the U.S.A. inspired a shift toward the creative arts. She pursued her passion for fashion and graduated from FIDM (Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising) in 2023, earning three degrees in fashion design with a specialization in both menswear and womenswear, and received multiple awards in recognition of her work.
After graduating, her husband gifted her the historic brand name American Jeans. She began developing the brand at the historical known New Mart Building, located in the heart of Los Angeles’ fashion district.
